Social Studies: Treaty Essay
In 1830 there were 100,000 Māori and 200 Europeans living in New Zealand. The behavior of the Whalers, the Missionaries’ desire to help protect Māori rights, and the Musket Wars were reasons that a treaty was needed. The Declaration of Independence was another contributing factor to the need for a treaty.
One reason that a treaty was needed was the lawless behavior of some of the British Settlers like whalers. This matters because the actions of the whalers were threatening and quite frankly sick toward the Maori. Whalers would stop ashore Russel, formerly known as Kororareka, to “blow off steam” galavanting around streets getting drunk; causing chaos.
Another reason that a treaty was needed was to protect Māori rights. One group that felt strongly about this was the missionaries. Missionaries had taken notice of the destruction and harm caused by the English during their docking, they would come ashore and do whatever they’d like because of the lack of laws on New Zealand land. Missionaries believed that this would cause a lot of strife toward the Maori and that the creation of new laws for our country would be a key part of stopping the inconsiderate actions of the whalers.
Another reason that a treaty was needed was the Musket Wars. Muskets had been on the rise and we’re now open for trading to the Maori, muskets would be traded for pig and other foods. Muskets would wreak havoc generating almost 20,000 deaths throughout a very short time. Muskets had been overly lethal and the reason was to defend or attack land all over New Zealand.
The final reason that a treaty was needed was the existence of the Declaration of Independence. The declaration of independence allowed New Zealand Maori to trade overseas, 34 Maori chiefs and leaders signed the declaration of independence on the 28th of October 1835, making trading open to all in our country.
This essay has clearly demonstrated that a treaty was needed to end the lawlessness and maliciousness of the British Settlers. The treaty had averted most damages the settlers had been inciting like the drunken sailors coming ashore, prostitution, muskets being regulated and gave Maori a say in things and they no longer had to sit back and watch their country be slowly destroyed. Out of all of the things discussed, I believe that the most crucial introduced legislation was the one that made it fair toward Maori to keep their owned land and for it not to just be taken by English Settlers and others and would stop the fighting for land, sparing many lives and contradicting tribes would come together to put their differences aside. I believe the right decision was made and we will strive!

Personalised Passion Projects
Hello, today I've been instructed to talk about our current passion project which is the creation of drum and bass music. I've been learning about the aspects around drum and bass and music as a whole and it's quite an exhilarating topic, there's much more to music that meets the eye and its very complex and hard to produce. My driving question is quite simple, What is drum and bass and how do you make it? basically, my group (hhsvinc.blogspot.com and hhsjackt.blogspot.com) and I are researching how to produce and hopefully making some of our own drum and bass music in the process. 0o

Live Aid Blogpost | Social Studies YR10
Choose a song from live aid
and explain why you think the artist used this song for their performance.
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody - I think this song was most likely used to energize and keep the crowd going seeing as it was and still is a very popular song.
Is this a form of Protest? - Explain
It's more of a fundraiser than protest although it moved many people and helped many people which means it could come under a peaceful protest
Do you think one person could start a similar concert in 2021? Explain your reasoning. (Live Aid took 10 weeks to organise)
I don’t think this could be possible because of the Covid-19 Coronavirus and it would be very difficult to work around different countries' rules towards the virus.
Include a video link to your favourite song from either Wembley or Philadelphia.
Phil Collins - Against All Odds, Live Aid Philadelphia

Making Salt II - Science Yr10.
Making Salt 2
Aim: To produce copper sulfate salt by reacting to copper oxide with an acid.
Equipment: Copper oxide powder, dilute (0.5 mol L-1) sulfuric acid, 50ml measure cylinder, two 100 mL beakers, Bunsen burner (Electronic Plate/Stove), tripod, gauze mat, funnel, filter paper, thermometer, spatula, evaporating basin, stirring rod.
Method: 1. Add 20 mL of sulfuric acid to a 100 mL beaker. Heat the acid until it reaches 70c. Turn off your Bunsen burner.
2. Once heated, use a spatula to add pea-sized portions of copper oxide to the beaker. Stir the mixture for 30 seconds
3. Repeat step 2 until no more will dissolve. Allow the beaker to cool.
4. Fold the filter paper and place it in the funnel, Place the filter funnel into the second beaker.
5. Make sure the beaker is cool enough to hold at the top. The contents should still be hot. You may need a teacher to complete this step.
6. Gently swirl the contents of the beaker to mix, and then pour into the filter paper in the funnel. Allow it to filter through.
7. Rinse the beaker you used to heat the mixture previously, and place it back on top of your tripod filled with 50-60 mL of water.
8. Place the evaporating basin on top of the beaker and carefully pour some of the solution from the beaker into the evaporating basin.
9. Gently heat the beaker until the solution in the evaporating basin has reduced by half.
10. Leave the evaporating basin to cool. Once cool, move the evaporating basin to a warm place where it will not be distributed and observe over the next few days. Blue copper sulfate crystals should form.
DO NOT EAT AFTER PROCESS, ITS STILL TOXIC

The Beatles: Here Comes The Sun.
Today I was instructed to listen to a piece made by The Beatles in Social Science, I chose "Here Comes The Sun". The song is a very happy and enthusiastic-sounding piece. The song was inspired by the long winters in the United Kingdom which Harrison thought went on forever. I think that the song is a great production. It is timeless, It is accessible and bright and, It has universal appeal.

Physical or Chemical Change (Heating ZnO)
My hypothesis - Heat reacts with the Zinc Oxide causing a change of colour from white to a faint yellow-ish colour and it turns back white after sometime resting off heat. (I watched an experiment like this on Nile Red (YouTube) , If my hypothesis is correct it should be a chemical change.
Equipment -
Sample of ZnO (Zinc Oxide)
Heat source - Hot plate
Scales
Heat proof container - Evaporating Dish
Tongs
Heat proof mat
-
After the experiment I found my hypothesis was correct and the powder had slight change in colour yet it was a physical change and not a chemical change because of the fact that it can easily be reversed which I did not bring into consideration. Before:

Coraline Essay | Film Study
What's Up Homie's And Other Teacher Homie's, Whats Good?
Going from a cool, calm, collected person to a nasty, spider-like being is a big change in the story and is the main setup for the action toward the end.
Coraline is set at the Pink Palace where her and her family live, it is quite boring and dull and is raining a lot of the time. They live quite miserable lifes and don’t get along too well. I think the director has given the movie various different routes the movie could go along which has created a lot of excitement, he also uses quite a weird approach on the movie using a plot that nobody would have thought of. Coraline wishes that she could just leave and her wish does come true as she finds the “portal” to the “other world”.
There she meets the “Other Mother” cooking a breakfast ready made for Coraline. It is a very bright setting with heaps of joy and light. If this isn't already weird enough she has a set of buttons instead of eyes. The Other Mother is very friendly unlike her Mother in the original world and is very joyful, I think the director uses this light to make the watcher think as if they're Coraline and get them thinking that this world is very happy and joyful even though it is the complete opposite. Coraline enjoys a few days at her new found home. After staying in the other world for quite some time she notices a few weird things going on, the Other Mother dramatically changes moods if Coraline doesn’t comply or doesnt listen, hence showing the bad side of her personality and how she is not how she actually seems.
Things gradually get worse and the hints keep popping up that something’s not right it creates a feeling of suspense. The Other Mothers stance first changes followed by the physical attributes and it gets to the point where she doesn't look human anymore and more spider-like, the lighting becomes very dark but also has neon colors incorporated to create a spooky feeling. She starts getting nasty and Coraline is very scared at this point. At some point in the movie the Other Mother (which now looks like a creature from outer space) has taken the key to get out of the other world and Coraline is faced with tasks to get it back, a big part of this is when she has to escape from the cell and save her parents.
The movie is great and has one of the most intriguing plots in a movie, the mixed use of lighting, shots, sound and angles creates a feeling as if you are in the movie and is very thrilling. The build up of the movie creates an influential feeling of suspense which makes the movie just that one bit better. Overall the movie was a milestone in film and should be praised for the creative genius the piece of writing i've written here proves my statement and gives a strong backup towards the statement. I think they should possibly make a Coraline 2 with how good the first was.

Cannabis Essay
Hello, 4 weeks ago in Health Vin and I decided to team up. Our tasks were to answer 5 questions of our choice, then describe 3 ways to improve and manage our chosen health issue if you or a friend were to experience it. Explain how it will improve wellbeing in the short term and long term. Then after that, we needed to create an activity or make something that teaches another group or the class about your topic/findings, so we chose to do an essay
Answers to the questions
1 Cannabis can cause schizophrenia and anxiety it can also heighten your senses (colors might seem brighter and sounds might seem louder) Distort your sense of time Hurt your motor skills and make driving more dangerous.
2 People around you might smoke so you could be forced to smoke or feel forced to smoke because you want to fit in with others around you, people also think it could help them in their daily life so that might be another reason why they chose to smoke weed.
3 In NZ it's medically legal but recreationally illegal, only people with a prescription are able to purchase it. People that have serious conditions such as Cancer and Epilepsy are able to get a prescription
4 You can become addicted after constant abuse of weed, if you're addicted and stop smoking withdrawal symptoms are diminished appetite mood changes irritability sleep difficulties, including insomnia headaches loss of focus cravings for marijuana sweating, including cold sweats chills increased feelings of depression stomach problems.
5 When a person uses marijuana, the principal psychoactive chemical called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) passes from the lungs (with smoking) or digestive tract (with edibles) into the bloodstream. The blood carries THC to the brain, where it acts on specific cannabinoid receptors. These receptors are predominantly found in areas of the brain associated with concentration, thinking, sensory and time perception, pleasure, memory, and coordination. Overactivation of these areas by THC causes the “high” that people feel. Marijuana use can impair functions such as attention, memory, and learning, and these effects can last up to several days beyond the time of actual “high”.
Vin and I worked very well together since we already had a lot of knowledge about weed because we have researched this before, and we also work very well together. I think this was too easy because we were given too much time.

English Water Pollution Essay
The Worldwide Problem: Water Pollution
Written By Kody Davison
What is Water Pollution in New Zealand and why is it such a big problem?
Water Pollution is a major global problem. Water pollution is the contamination of water, usually as a result of human activities. Water bodies include for example lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers and groundwater. This water can be released into natural water bodies, this can lead to public health problems for people living downstream. They may use the same polluted river water for drinking, bathing or irrigation. In New Zealand in particular agriculture is a big portion of the money income. Cattle are spread widely across New Zealand including near water bodies. As well as the methane from the cattle, the urine of the cattle contains high levels of nitrogen. When they urinate on the paddock, it's too much nitrogen for the grass to be able to benefit from so it seeps down into the groundwater, which then makes its way to the streams, rivers and lakes.
There are many ways to help stop pollution!
DO NOT pour fat from cooking or any other type of fat, oil, or grease down the sink.
DO NOT dispose of household chemicals or cleaning products down the sink or toilet.
DO NOT flush pills, liquid or powder medications or drugs down the toilet.
Avoid using the toilet as a bin. Most tissues, wrappers, and other paper products should be properly taken care of in a bin.
DO NOT dispose of these chemicals, motor oil, or other car fluids into the sanitary sewer or storm sewer systems. Both of them end at the river.
Preventing water pollution and conserving water are important to keep a continuing amount of water that is safe to use for ourselves and future generations. With such a low percentage of the earth's water being drinkable (3%) it is very essential to keep water clean and healthy for us humans and wildlife alike to drink.
I learned that water is the most valuable resource this earth has and is quickly becoming very hard to get, if we don’t change this soon then the world as we know it will most likely be over. There are simple ways to fix this problem as I learned and I am going to use my knowledge to the best of my ability to help this cause and fight against water pollution.
